With over 40 years of experience handling personal injury* and accident claims in Ireland*, we are here to ensure you get the compensation* you deserve, with care, clarity, and efficiency.

How Personal Injury* Claims Work in Ireland

If you’ve suffered an injury or illness due to someone else’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation*. All personal injury* claims in Ireland (excluding medical negligence* and some other exceptions) must first be submitted to the Injuries Resolution Board, previously known as the Personal Injuries Assessment Board. The process involves medical assessments, documentation, and legal procedures that can be complex. Working with a solicitor specialising in personal injury* law is essential.

The Process: 6 Clear Steps to Your Compensation*

Step 1

Initial
Consultation

Your journey begins by contacting us for a confidential, no-obligation consultation. One of our experienced personal injury* solicitors will discuss your case with you, explain the process, and assess whether you have grounds for a valid claim.

Step 2

Building Your
Case

During your initial meeting, we’ll take a detailed statement about your accident and injuries*. We then immediately begin gathering key evidence to support your claim, including your medical report, photographs of the scene, receipts for any losses, accident reports, and witness statements. These details form the foundation of a strong application.

Step 3

Submitting Your
Claim

We’ll complete and file your application with the Injuries Resolution Board, including all necessary supporting materials. The person or company responsible (the “Respondent”) is then formally notified, marking the official start of their involvement in the process.

Step 4

Medical
Assessment

The Injuries Resolution Board may ask you to attend an independent medical assessment. Based on this and all the evidence we’ve submitted, the Board will then determine the level of compensation* to be awarded.

Step 5

Decision and
Resolution

If both parties accept the Injuries Resolution Board’s assessment, the compensation* is paid, and your case concludes. If either you or the Respondent rejects the award, we can then proceed to pursue your claim in court.

Step 6

Litigation & Settlement (If Necessary)

Should your case proceed to court, we will handle everything for you. This involves preparing all legal documents, issuing proceedings, and representing you fully in court. Rest assured, most cases are resolved before reaching trial through negotiated settlements, and we’ll ensure prompt payment of your compensation* upon successful resolution.

What You Can Do to Help Your Claim

You can make a meaningful difference to the outcome of your claim by taking the following steps:

Photograph the accident scene and injuries*, this helps prove what happened and when it occurred.

Write down details like time and witnesses, this keeps your memory fresh and facts accurate.

Record equipment used and any known defects, include models, brands, and maintenance records.

Report the accident and log it officially, your employer must record all incidents in writing.

Ask if others had similar past accidents, note who was involved and what actions were taken.

Ensure serious incidents are reported to HSA, this applies if you miss more than three days.

Get medical attention and explain the cause, and clearly describe how your injury took place.

Keep receipts for all your injury expenses, including travel, treatment, and lost wages.

Track symptoms and record your recovery, and maintain a daily journal of pain and progress.
